A complementary strategy: prioritize based on what changed in the current release. This catches the most common source of bugs, which is regressions introduced by recent code changes.

  1. Review the changelog or commit log for the release
  2. Identify which feature areas were touched

  1. Testing in creation order. Test cases ordered by "when they were written" have no relationship to business importance. Reorder or tag them by priority so critical paths run first.
